I have done over 500 fitness consultations in the past 5 years. During all those coversations I hear many of the same fears, misconceptions and struggles repeated over and over.
I also hear so many pre-conceived notions from people looking to get into shape that are incorrect.
Things like carbs are bad and I don’t want to get too bulky.
So I decided to interview Amanda Aguzzi, a fitness competitor, to talk about what she does to look the way she looks. Many of the things people trying to get into shape avoid are the exact things people in great shape actually do. Funny how that works.

One of my favorite takeaways from the interview is that she looks forward to the food she is going to eat not the food she can’t eat. I love that mindset hack.(14 min 30 sec mark). It’s a way to re-frame in your mind what you can have vs. what you can’t have and make a negative association with food a positive one. I switched my own thinking immediately that night.

FEAR: SCARED OF THE GYM OR THE WEIGHTED SECTION
The Rookie: Hits the gym and only does cardio.
Amanda: Did research before hand and went in with a plan. She put on her gym disguise (hat brim low & headphones) and actually spoke to people…(imagine that).
MISCONCEPTION: LIFTING WEIGHT WILL MAKE ME TOO BULKY
The Rookie: Only does cardio and thinks they can’t weight train because of the fear of bulking up.
Amanda: Mostly weight trains.
