The Vacation Fat Trap
I just came back from a weekend in Chicago and I am certainly guilty of letting myself over indulge more than I wanted.
Most vacation pounds are gained as a result of constant indulgence. Each meal becomes an opportunity to eat your heart out to the tune of “I’m on vacation.”
I have to go to Washington DC now for a few days and I am determined to not let that happen again.
Here are two simple steps I will utilize to avoid the VFT (Vacation Fat Trap).
Step # 1 : The 1/3 Rule
Rather than indulge constantly adopt the 1/3 rule. Meaning, I can eat whatever I want one third of the time, but the other two thirds I’ll stick to lots of veggies, greens and lean proteins. Also avoid breads, anything with sugar and any beverages that contain calories.
This way I can enjoy my favorites for at least one meal guilt free but still not overdue it.
Step # 2: The Excercise Rule
Each and every day I will do some form of excercise. I’m sure my hotel will have a gym but even if it doesn’t I will do the following routine in my room or outside.
-20 push ups
-30 seconds of jump squats
-20 walking lunges
– 30 second plank hold
-30 seconds rest
-Repeat from the top 3 times
I’ll let you know how it works out but with those two things in the forefront of my mind I’ll be sure not to slip into the VFT again.
