Interview with Pauline Nordin of FighterDiet
Fighter Diet was Founded by Pauline Nordin. Her no BS approach to training caught the attention of the producers for the Nordic version of “Biggest Loser.” Pauline was the trainer, diet coach, and the leader for the winning Swedish team in 2006. Pauline has authored books such as Fighter Diet and The Butt bible. She has been featured on the cover of countless Fitness magazines as well as iSport’s Time Square billboard. Her Facebook pages have almost 70k followers and she is a blogger for Muscle & Fitness.
In this short interview Pauline clears up some common misconceptions about weight & cardio training and offers her advice on how to achieve such an elite fitness level.
PhatBurn: The biggest concerns I hear from men & women without fail is:
Women: I don’t want to lift because I will get too bulky.
Men: I don’t want to do too much cardio and lose my size.
You get it, please clear up this fear with your knowledge on the subject.
PAULINE: Women cannot get huge like a hulk due to a very small amount of muscle building hormones. It’s not the muscles that are too big, it’s the fat on top which makes women look ‘bulky’. By dieting to get ripped and train to be a hulk you end up looking like a ballerina.
For men, yes, excess cardio will inhibit muscle growth but you can avoid that scenario by doing short intense cardio workouts and not do them post weights or in the hours pre or post weight workouts.
PhatBurn: So you’re ass actually got banned from Facebook lol. Tell us about that.
PAULINE: It’s crazy. I am showing muscle development in its finest form and one of the wonderful muscles is the gluteus. People who are either angry with me or get upset because I show ‘skin’ without any sexual implications report my pics and I get banned. It has happened 10 times.
PhatBurn: People think they can start training right before summer, vacation or a wedding just in time to look good for an event. You decided not to pursue a degree in journalism because you thought it would hurt your training. What do you say to those who want to get into shape just for a particular event and do nothing the rest of the year?
PAULINE: To me it’s a waste of time. It takes great dedication and work ethic to get in shape so why do it just to see it disappear?
PhatBurn: We definitely agree with you there. It seems like you like training to DMX. What other music gets you amped up in the gym?
PAULINE: I like hip hop and I like dutch house music, but you should see my iTunes library… I got all the genres! My favorites for workouts are; DMX, NAS, Dirty Dutch Digital, Rage Against the Machine and Biggie Smalls. I named my Range Rover after him!
PhatBurn: Finally, how did you get here? What was your inspiration for going so hard into fitness and can others follow in your footsteps?
PAULINE: I started training back in 1999 when I came across a Muscle & Fitness magazine. The female cover model was so cut and muscular; at first I was scared to death! But I found myself fascinated by the cover model’s perfect, lean, strong body.
As a teenager, I struggled with five years of eating disorders and let myself get really skinny. I more or less stopped eating and punished myself with pushups, pull-ups, and sit-ups for a couple of hours a day in the morning and after school. My lowest weight was at 90 lbs on my 5’2” frame. Although I knew I was on the wrong path, I just didn’t know what to do. But once I decided to become a bodybuilder, I did a complete 360: I switched from being destructive with my body to building it and eventually beginning my career as a fitness model.
I can’t stand complaining when it comes to dieting and training. People have to accept that there are rules that must be followed to reach their goals. As long as you are looking for an easier way out, you won’t be loyal to your principles. It’s all about the mindset. Instead of seeing something as “not being allowed” or “cannot have,” you have to tell yourself that you can choose the foods that help you reach your goals and you can choose to avoid the ones that don’t. In other words, you have the right to eat whatever crap you want, but if you do, it’s just because you are not 100% committed.
PhatBurn: Well that certainly is no BS. Thanks for doing this Pauline!
